just got back from seeing Jerusalem. The play was absolutely amazing.
You watch the first half and laugh but by the time intermission passes you star to realize that it’s about more. The man who lives alone in the woods and has all these “friends” and appears carefree is lonely. and ostracized. It’s tragic. So now I’m home thinking about being alone. It’s such a terrifying idea, to be alone. I think that it’s human nature to want to connect and want to belong so then what about those people who decide to be alone? Are they truly that misanthropic, or are they just scared? I think they’re probably just scared. Having been that, I know that it’s at least that way for me. My greatest fear is some sort of hybrid beast of being alone and rejection. But yes, he’s alone and defeated, so you watch and feel this sort of pagne every time he’s called “gyppo” because you know that it’s just one more rock hurtled at an already broken man.
If you have the means, do go see it.
